Dear Mr. Lewis, At your request, Huddleston-Berry Engineering and Testing, LLC (HBET) prepared this letter regarding foundations for a new concrete batch plant proposed in Rifle, Colorado. Foundation recommendations developed for the structure are outlined in the referenced report. Unfortunately, HBET was not contacted to conduct an open -hole inspection to observe the subgrade conditions below the proposed structure. However, HBET did conduct potholing around the foundation, prior to concrete placement, to verify the subsurface conditions across the pad. The potholes indicated that the subgrade across the building pad were consistent with the referenced report. Sandy gravel and cobble (pit -run) soils were observed in both of the potholes. In addition, 1/4- minus material was observed as a leveling course immediately below the foundation formwork. Documentation regarding the potholing observations is attached. In general, based upon our observations at the site and information in the referenced report, HBET believes that the foundation subgrade is adequate for the allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 psf recommended in the referenced report. A subgrade modulus of 200 pci is also appropriate. We are pleased to be of service to your project. Please contact us if you have any questions or comments regarding the contents of this letter. Respectfully Submitted: Huddleston-Berry Engineering and Testing, LLC Michael A. Berry, P.E. Vice President of Engineering
