RE: Vander Zanden Foundation
Bruce,
This letter is to be forwarded to the Garfield County Community Development Deparhent.
I understand that we are foregoing the submission of a preliminary soils investigation report by a
geotechnical engineer and that an open hole soils report shall be prepared and made available to
the county building inspector at time of the scheduled footing inspection. Any analysis that
results in changes to the foundation design will be submitted to the building departrnent prior to
required inspections.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or need anything else.
Sincerely,
Mike Arbaney P.E.

Su bject: Re: I External] BLRE-03-2 L-67 69 - Van der Zanden
Colleen and Andy - I had worked out with the HOA/ARC at Elk Springs during design review that they
were OK with Kumar's general recommendations (l have information from Steve Pawlak) on soils for
foundation design and then an open holes test for verífication of the recommendations at
excavation. The structural engineer is good with this method and so is the owner (l can have each write
a letter). Can we proceed in this manner? I will obviously am l-00% vested in having the proper bearing
capacity, drainage, etc. for the project but want to proceed ín a logical, streamlined manner. lt has the
exact same outcome and Kumar us 3 months out on digging test pits and analysis at this point.
Regards, Bruce

I don't have a soils report, I go on assumed bearing capacity and then
get an open holes. What did you design for? The site just down the hill
had L500 psf (see attached). I could not find the open holes but ít was
Zonakis (you worked on it) and has pretty standard everything (footíngs,
slabs, etc.)

BRUCE,
Update the soils to say designed per soils report number ..... Also send
me the soils report as I don't seem to have it. I updated some things in
the attached file. The one you sent was all old codes.
Thanks,

submission of a geotechnical engineers report prior to
issuance of the building permit. l'll need to review this
report before releasing plans. ln event, the property
owners have an electronic version of theír geotechnical
