Subject: Sunlight Mountain Resort (SMR) Dry
Stack Boulder Retaining Wall
Understandi ng and Purpose
SMR would like to install a dry-stack boulder retaining wall which will be located on the
south side of the lodge at Sunlight Mountain resort. The purpose of this wall is to create
additional event and yard space for social events throughout the year.
The purpose of this memorandum is to supplement my previous memo issued on June 2,
2027 and serve as a memorandum that the retaining wall was observed to be constructed
in general compliance with the detail that was issued with my initial memo.
Summary of Observations
During my site walk on June 24th I observed the following:
1) Overall the retaining wall had been completed.
2) The boulder stockpile was removed
3) Earthmoving equipment demobilized from the immediate area
4) Gravel has been laid down in front of the retainingwalland graded.
5) A perched lens of groundwater was still visible near the base of the west end of
the retaining wall.
a. lt appeared that the earthmoving contractor had created a narrow shallow
ditch to create positive drainage for this water to move from the base of
the wall towards the west and downhill.
Overall, during my site visits on June 1 and June 2,2O2t it appeared that the construction
of this wall was in conformance with the detail issued in my June 2,2021memo. The size
and overall geometry of the boulders observed appear to conform to or exceed the
requirements in the issued detail. The overall height of the wall and base embedment
appear to conform to the issued detail.
