Dear Eric:
On December 8, 2020, Robert Oddo, P.E. with Oddo Engineering conducted a structural
observations of the existing condition of the fire damaged building. Our scope of service was to
determine the structut'al damage from a recent fire of the existing wood roof trusses only; we did not
research any water structural damage in the floor or foundation below. Our observation was limited
to the present condition and was limited to areas easily accessible with no material testing, We did
not check any architectural code requirements ot fire code requirements. No existing structural
drawings available.
The building is a pre-manufacture house with built up 2x roof trusses with plywood plates fastened
with staples. The fire damaged affected approximately 5 roof trusses.
We recommend removing the fire damaged wood huss components and replace with 2 x lA @ 16"
o.c. for each damaged truss. The new 2 x l0 rafters shall be along the slope of the roof and be flush
with the bottom of ply'rvood which would require notched or removing existing 2x blocking in
between trusses. Or add additional 2 x blocking for no notch. The new 2 x It rafters shall have a
trimmet beneath and transfer with a solid member thru the existing interior stud wall down to the
foundation for full load transfer.
Also, it may be required to remove the damage roof over hangs and replace with a minimum 2 x 4
lapped to the side of the new 2 x I0 or existing truss with 8d @ 4" o.c. staggered. The back span
length into the building shall be a minimum of 1.5 the overhang length.
Vy'e resommend hiring an expert in smoke removal to assure that the smell of smoke can be
removed and is not prcsent in the futurc. One method for removing the smolce smell and black
coating fi'om the non-fire damage wood beams would be blasting with a sodium bicarbonate. Then
apply an encapsulating coating on every squal'e inch of the fire affected ¿ueas. Other methods and
product are available. A contractor may have a prefelred method or recommendations for products
for removing the smoke smell. This is not our expertise and oniy a comment.

In summary, fi'om our general obseryation there has been strucfural damage to the built up trusses as
mentioned above. We would recommend rcmoving fire damage truss components and replacing
with 2 x l0 @ 16" o.c. rafters and? x 4 minimum at overhangs.
Ifyou have any questions please feel free to give us a call to discuss.
Sincerely
