Arnended TrarÅ3á,Antiers Orchard, 239 LaFrenz Lane, Garfield County, Colorado Daniel: As requested, a represenfative of Kulr¡ar & Assaciates, '{nc. ct¡sened The excavatioa at t}re subject site on Jaly 21,2{}2Q to evaluate the soiis exposed for foundation supporl. The findings af aur observaticns ar':"sl recoff,Éïen<latir:'ns fur tLre f,or¡ndatisr:I desigi:l are ¡resented in this repûrt. We previously conclucted a subsoil study for desígn r:f foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated March 72,2{}79,Pr*jøaî. Nc. 19-7-1?4. The prcposed ¡esidence is esscntialåy the safiie a^s described in ocr ¡'rrevious report and wilt be a 2-story strucfure above crawlspace with a slab-on-grade garage fìoor. Spread footings placed on th* naturai soitrs anci sizetl fcr ari ¿llc'øal:le bearing prçssurs of 1"5'û0 psf were tiesigned for ths founclation support. At the time of our visit to the site, the faundation excavation had been cut in one level from 1% to 7 feet l¡r*low the *djac*nt groimd s*rface. The ssils exp*sed in $:.e botfcm cf the excavatio¡r consisted of relatively low density, very sandy silt with scattered gl:avel. No fi"ee water was encoui*ered in the excavalion and" the sc'ils rve¡c slíghtly moist. Tlre s<ril cçnclitíons exposed in the exçavattçn are consistent with thcse previously cnc,ou:rtcred on the site and suitable for supporl of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable be*ring prsssuie of 1,5Ûû psf with a risk of settlement. The soils tend to settle wtren weired and precautions should be taken to keep the bearing soils dry, Loose disturbed soils in the footing areas should be moistened aud compacted. Ûther recommendatisns presented in c¡ur previous report v¡hieh are applicable should also be observed. The recommenclations submitted in this letter arc based orì our observation of the soils exposed witl:in the fourreìation excava:ticn and the pr*vìous sr¡bsullace expioration at ttre site. Variations in the subsurface conditions belcw the excavation could increase the risk of foundation movelTlellt.
