As I understand it, the soil engineer requested that footing elevations be lowered at
certain locations along the front and north side of the house in order to bear on adequate
soils. The increased depths ranged from 3 to 4.5 feet in most cases. At the entry, the
footing was dropped about 6 feet to where the resulting height was about l3 feet.
Changing the vertical bars to #5's at l'-2" o.c. would be sufficient for the additional wall
heights.
At three locations (2 along Grid 5 and one at Grid G &.4) a main level beam was
specified to be supported with a post against the concrete wall, bearing on the perimeter
footing. At these locations, a beam pocket in the concrete wall shall be used to support
the main level beams to avoid having the posts buried below grade. The pocket should be
deep enough to provide 4 inches ofbeam bearing.
