Subject: Observation of Exeavation, Proposed Residence, Lot 66, Filing 5, Elk Springs,
0039 Crescent Flaee, Garfield County, Colorado
Gentlemenl
As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the excavation at the
subject site on July ig, 2û21ta evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings
of our observations and recornmendations for the foundation design are presented in this report.
\Me previousìy eonclueted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented our
findings in a report dated April 22,202I, Prcject No. 21-7-215.
The proposed residence is essentially the same as described in our previous report and will be
supported on shallow spread footings designed for an allowable bearing pressråre of 1,500 psf.
At the time of our visit to the site, tho foundation excavation had been cut in multiple levels from
about 3 to 8 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of the
excavation consisted cf mainly moderately to highly ealcareous, slightly elayey sandy silt. No
ftee water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightly moist.
The soil eonditions exposed in the excavation are oonsistent withthose previously encountered
o¡r the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable
bearing pressure of 1,500 psf with a risk of settlement mainly if the bearing soils are wetted.
Loose disturbcd soils in the footing areas should be moistencd and compaeted. Other
recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed.
The recommendations subreeitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soiis exposed
within thc foundation excavation and the previous subsurfaee exploration at the sitc. Variations
in thc subsurfaee conditions below the exeavation eould increase tlie risk of for¡ndation
movement. We shoukl be advised *f any variations eneountered in tho excavation eonditions for
possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter. Our seryíees do not include
