Observation of Exeavation, Proposed Residence, Lot 37, Filing 6, Elk Springs,
0031 WoodruffFlace, Garfield County, Colorado
Dear Slawek:
As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, trnc. observed the excavation at the
subject site cn Nlay 28,2t21 ta evaluate the soils exposod for for¡ndation support" The findings
of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report.
We previously eonducted a subsoil study for design of forurdations at the site and presented our
findings in a report dated .{pril 8,2021 and revised addendum letter dated .Iune 8, 2A21, Projoot
No.21-7-214.
The proposed residence will be a two-story structure over partial lowcr walkout basement level
and partial erawlspace" Ground floors will be a combination of thickened slab sections and
structural ovcr crawlspace.
At the time of our r¡isit to the síte, the foundation exeavation had been eut in 2 main levei and
3 rninor levels from 1 tø 9Yz feet below the adjacent ground surfaee. ThE soils exposed in the
bottom ofthe excavation consisted ofdense, basalt boulders and cobbles in a calcareous sandy
silt matrix" l{o free water was encountered in the exoavation and the soils were slightly moist.
The soil eonditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those peeviously encountered
on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable
bearing pressure ofl2,5t0 psf. T.oose disturbed soils in the footing areas should be moistened and
eompacted" Other recommendations presemted in ou previous report whieh æe applicable
should also be abserved.
Tho recommandations submitted in this letter are based orr our observation of the soils exposecl
within the foundation cxcavation and the previous subsurfaee explcration at the site. Variations
in the subsurface conditions bclow the exeavation eould increase the risk of foundation
movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered iil the excavation sonditions for
possible changes to recornrnendations eontained in this letter. ûur seruices do not inelude
deterrnining the presence, prevcntion or possibility of mold or other biologioal contaminants
