Subject: Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lot20, Spring Ridge Reserve,
135 Hidden Valley Drive, Garfield County, Colorado
Jesse
As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the excavation at the
subject site on August 22,2022 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The
fîndings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this
report. Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical (now Kumar & Associates) previously conducted a
subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented the findings in a report dated
November 30, 2005, Job No. 105 987. The current observation was perlormed in accordance
with our agreement for professional services with you dated August 15,2022.
The proposed residence will be slab-on-grade and supported with spread footings sized for the
recommended allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf.
At the time of our visit to the site, the building excavation had been cut in one level from about 1
to 3 feet below the adjacent ground surface, increasing in depth from west to east. The soils
exposed in the bottom of the excavation consisted of sandy silt and clay to silty sand with fine
gravel. Results of swell-consolidation testing perfiormed on samples taken from the site, shown
on Figures 7 and2, indicate the soils are slightly compressible under existing low moisture
content with a low collapse potential when wetted and moderate compressibility under additional
loading after wetting. The laboratory test results are summarized in Table l. No f'ree water was
encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightly moist.
