RE: BLRE-07-ZL-6974 - Tim and Jennifer Bauer job site
Background: I'm the original plans exam¡ner and am f¡lling in on today's
inspection route.
Message for Bob Oddo, cc: Olaf Jean Construction:
This morning lvisited 1841 Elk Springs Rd forfooting inspection with Olaf Jean Construction. While reading
the FIELD COPY, ldid note that I had stamped an "open hole soíls report" condition on the plans. ln re-revíew
of the general specification notes (5L.0) and foundation plan sheet(S2.0, NOTE #3) -- the wording from Oddo
Engíneers implies or advises - where footings on undisturbed natural soils, then no additional geotechnical
review followíng excavation necessary; only where over-excavation, fill and compaction is performed does the
Structural Engineeradvise the building contractorto obtain services of the geotechnical engineerto evaluate
conditions following excavation.
Those overseeing the work at the job site today indícated they had reached out to Oddo Engineers and re-
confírmed thís via phone prior to scheduling the footing inspection, is that correct? Upon returning to our
Community Development Department over lunch break, I found similar reference wording in HP Geotech's
preliminary soils investigatíon report scanned in ourfile folder.
Olaf Jean is planning to schedule their concrete pour. As they have indícated no over-excavation, fill and
compaction I did interpret they're good to continue with no further site observations or special reports from
the geotechnícal or structural engineer of record. Please advise if this should notbe the intent.
