19 Silver Spruce
Carbondale, CO 81623
OWTS Permit #: SEPT-7132
November 21, 2022
Nate and Mindy,
On September 20, 2022, we visited the site at 19 Silver Spruce near Carbondale in Garfield
County, Colorado to observe the OWTS installation pursuant to OWTS Permit # SEPT-7132. The system
had been backfilled prior to our inspection. The homeowner/builder provided photographs taken
throughout the system installation. At the time of our site visit, the contractor had installed the new sewer
line and cleanout adjacent to the residence, the new concrete 2,000-gallon two-compartment septic tank
with a high-head pump in the second compartment of the tank, the new pump line, the automatic
distributing valve, and the two mounded unlined sand filter bed zones. Dead men were installed on the
septic tank to counter the buoyancy effects of the high groundwater levels in the area. The septic tank
and automatic distributing valve appeared to be installed level with access brought to grade. The wiring
for the pump was in general conformance with the Garfield County OWTS Regulations and the control
box was mounted within line-of-sight of the septic tank. A minimum of three feet of secondary sand
material was installed to construct the unlined sand filter. The designer provided a gradation of the sand
material used to construct the filter, as required by the Regulations. Each zone consisted of two laterals
constructed of1.5-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC, placed in GeoMat filter fabric placed directly on the
sand. The laterals had 5/32-inch diameter orifices facing down every 2.5 feet on-center. Each sand filter
zone measured 10 feet wide by 37.5 feet long (750 ft2 STA total). Each lateral ended in a sweeping 90-
degree ell with a ball valve for flushing. Additionally, inspection ports were present at each corner of each
bed. The homeowner provided a letter from Valley Precast indicating that the pump and OWTS system
had been started properly and run through several cycles without issue. In our opinion, this system was
installed in general conformance with Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action or review
from Garfield County Environmental Health is required regarding this permit.
