This letter is in response to framing clarifications for the subject project as requested by
the building department framing inspector following the rough framing inspection. Our
responses are as follows:
Item 1. Flex Space - Inspector is requesting engineer approval for framing and
hanger connections for the roof over the flex space.
Response: I have reviewed the photos of the framing and hangers as installed
and approve of the framing and hangers as installed.
Item 2. Flex Space – Missing all-thread at ridge connection for dormer.
Response: Two ¾” diameter all-thread are required per Framing Detail 1-S4.
Add additional ¾” all-thread to comply.
Item 3. Garage – Glu-lam in garage. Inspector is requesting engineer approval
for hole size and spacing.
Response: I have reviewed the photos of the hole sizes and spacing for the glu-
lam beam in the garage and approve the sizes and spacing of the
holes installed.
Item 4. Garage – Holes drilled in I-joist for gas piping are located 10” from the
face of support to the edge of the hole.
Response: The minimum edge distance from the face of the support to the edge
of a 2” hole is 1’-0”. The pipe must be removed and relocated so the
center of the 2” hole is 24” from the face of the support. The holes
must be repaired by installing ½” plywood 9½” high x 1’-6” long each

side of the web centered of the holes. The plywood should be glued
and nailed w/ 10d nails 6” o.c. top and bottom.
Item 5. Bedroom 3 – Truss Attachment. The inspector is requesting approval
from the engineer for the attachment of the 2x12 ledger to the stud wall
framing.
Response: The 2x12 ledger should be attached to each stud with a minimum of
(7)16d nails.
