Subject:observation ofThree Pad Excavations, Proposed Remodel of Existing House, 3g
E. Diamond A Ranch Road, Lot D-45, Filing l, Aspen Glen, Garfield County,
Colorado
Dear Bobby:
As requested, the undersigned representative of Kumar & Associates observed the three pad
excavations at the subject site an February 16,2t23 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation
support. The findings of our observations and recommendatiols for the foundation support are
presented in this report. The services were performed in accordance with our agreement for
professional engineering services to Ram Development dated February 16,2t23.
The proposed renovation of the existing split level house includes one new footing 4' by 4' pad
at the fuIl basement level and two 2o by 2' pads at the hatf basement level. The new pads were
designed for an allowable soil bearingpressure of 1,500 psf, All three pads were cut down about
1 foot below the existing concrete slabs. The soils exposed in the larger pad excavation at fi.lll
basement depth consisted of relatively dense, slightly silty sand and gravel. Screened %-inch
rock was exposed in the upper basement level pacl excavations. No free water was encountered i'
the excavations and the soils were slightly moist.
Considering the conditions exposed in the excavation and the nature of the proposed
construction, spread footings placed on the undisturbed natural sr:il or screened rock designed for
an allowable soil bearing pressure of 1,500 psf can be used for support of the prcposed
renovations. The exposed screened rock materials should be compacted prior to placing rebar
and concrete. Footings should be a minimum width of 2 feet for columns.

The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed
within the proposed pad excavations and do not include subsurface exploration to evaluate the
subsurface conditions within the loaded depth of foundation influence. This study is based on
the assumption that soils beneath the footings have egual or better support than those exposed.
The risk of foundation movement may be greater than indicated in this report because of possible
variations in the subsurface conditions. Our services do not include determining the presence,
prevention or possibility of mold or other biological contaminants (MOBC) developing in the
future. If the client is concflrled about MOBC, then a professional in this special field of
practice should be consulted.
If you have any questions or need further assistanceo please call our office.
Sincerely,
