Dear Mr. Miller, Date: 5-23-2023 Permit#: BLRE-06-22-7616 As requested, structural steel special inspection was conducted per the IBC 2015 Edition - Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspection and the Garfield County requirements. I arrived on -site at 11:30 AM. I met with you to review project requirements and material ready for inspection. I reviewed the welding procedure and the welder certifications and found them to be acceptable. Copies are kept of file with Wayne Collins from Garfield Steel. Visual welding inspection was conducted on the Great Room, the Master Bedroom, and the porch on the rear of the residence where the structural steel was utilized. In the Great Room, I observed the column to beam fillet welds and the column to support bracket fillet welds. During my inspection, I observed some of the support brackets lacked sufficient welds and needed reinforcement. I showed them to you. In the Master Bedroom, I observed the column to beam fillet welds and the column to joist bucket fillet welds. During my inspection, I observed the joist bucket welds were intermittent welds that should have been a full vertical weld on each side. I showed them to you. Monument Steel Inspection, LLC PO Box 23388 Glade Park, CO 81523 318.469.2279 monumentsteelinspectionllc22@gmail.com On the rear porch frame, I observed the angle welded connection at the house used a knife plate for the connection point. During my inspection, I observed the knife plate had been welded with only a vertical weld on either side. Common practice is to weld a knife plate connection on 3 sides. I showed this to you. All of these issues will need to be remedied and re -inspected. Upon completion, all other fillet welds were observed to be compliant with project specifications and the visual inspection requirements as stated in Clause 8 of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code — Steel: 2020 Edition. Continued inspection will conducted at a later date.
