The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated October 11,2018, Project No. l8-7-554. We nnderstand the proposed garage addition has been designed to be founded on spread footings bearing on the natural soils and sized for an allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf. At the time of our visit to the site, the foundation excavation had been cut in 2 levels ftom3Yzto 5 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavation consisted of stifl, silty sandy clay. Results of swell-consolidation testing performed on a sample taken from the site, shown on Figure 1, indicate the soils are slightly compressible under conditions of loading and wetting. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightly moist to moist. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf. Loose and disturbed soils should be removed in the footing areas SAMPLE OF: Sondy Silt ond Cloy FROM: North Sldo of Bottom of Excovotlon WC = 20.7 %, DD = 91 pcf I l; lr il..| : ] NO MOVEMENT UPON WETTING f,,l i'iii riiri-i-il' jl llil.tii lillirl:li rlil ililiil irililii l, I,l i tl ...- ., -. ...--l --. r .. ..i ..
