Box 78 Basalt, Colorado 81621 Scott(ci)compasscm.com Project No. 23-7-618 Subject: Excavation Observation, Proposed Metal Building, 6283 County Road 100, Garfield County, Colorado Dear Scott: As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the excavation at the subject site on October 26, 2023 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. At the time of our visit to the site, the foundation excavation had been cut to one level from about 1 %2 to about 3'h feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the excavation consisted of a medium stiff to stiff sandy silty clay in the southwest and northeast portions of the excavation and basalt cobbles in a white calcareous sandy silty matrix in the southeast and northwest portions of the excavation. In some of the clay areas, probing indicated that the cobbles were less than about 1 foot below footing grade. There were two individual pad excavations on the west side of the building area. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were dry to slightly moist. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are suitable for support of spread footings designed for an allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf on the undisturbed natural soils. Any loose and disturbed soils should be removed in the footing areas to expose the undisturbed natural soils prior to the placement of concrete. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed. The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed within the foundation excavation and our experience in the area. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could increase the risk of foundation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions for possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter. Our services do not include determining the presence, prevention or possibility of mold or other biological contaminants (MOBC) developing in the future. If the client is concerned about MOBC, then a professional in this special field of practice should be consulted.
