RE: Leach Field Soil InvesƟgaƟon
Dear Mr. Williams,
Free Range Engineering (FRE) was asked to perform a visual and tacƟle soil evaluaƟon for leach field
improvements at a residence located at 489 Harmony Way in Silt, Colorado. This memo presents the
invesƟgaƟon details and subsurface condiƟons observed at the residence on Tuesday, December 26,
2023.
Two borings, idenƟfied as B‐1 and B‐2, were drilled with a truck mounted drill rig using 4‐inch solid stem
auger to total depths of 10.5 feet and 9.5 feet respecƟvely. Samples of the subsurface materials were
obtained from the borings at select depths by driving a split‐spoon sampler. The samples were collected
at depths of 3 feet, 7 feet and 9 feet in boring B‐1 and 4 feet and 8 feet in boring B‐2. Generally, the soil in
both borings correlates to a Type 2 based on USDA Table 10‐1 as presented below with an increasing
percentage of sand and gravel below 7 to 8 feet in the borings.
Ground water was not encountered in the test pits at the Ɵme of excavaƟon. Neither bedrock nor a
limiƟng layer were encountered to the depths explored.
