Project No. 22-7-i 15.A
Subject: Observation of Pit, Proposed Residence, glT4Highway 82, Garfield County,
Colorado'
Dear Wes:
As requested, Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed a pit excavated in the southwest comer of the
proposed residence and observed the nearby steep slope down to the river with regard to moving
the house to the south of the staked location.
The current layout for the residence is set well pack from the top of the steep slope down to the
Roaring Fork River to the west and is located east of the existing irrigation ditch. The subsurface
conditions in the area of the house closest to the steep slope were evaluated by observing a
backhoe pit. The soils encountered in the pit consisted of about 1 footof topsoil and I foot of
medium dense, sandy silt overlying relatively dense, slightly silty sandy gravel with cobbles
down to the bottom of the pit at about 4 feet. No free water was observed in the pit at the time
of observation and the soils were slightly moist. The nearby irrigation ditch was dry.
The soil conditions observed on the steep slope down to the river shows about 15 feet of dense
gravel alluvium overlying bedrock outcrops of gray siltstone (Eagle Valley Evaporite
Formation)
The like to move the house about 14 feet to the south. There is a deck around
corner being about
of the steep down to nver
nver The will re-routed and
may be piped as needed but 1n same general area that it is now
Based on our observation of the staked location of the house and the conditions exposed on the
nearby steep slope, the proposed house location, about 14 feet to the south of the original staked
location, is suitable with regard to long-term slope stability of the nearby steep slope down to the
river.
