RE:air leakage Testing
A completion depressurization air leakage test was performed by Elan B of NZB/Building Performance
Contractors on 2-15-24.The air leakage rate was:
Main house all areas and garage -1682 CFM 4.3 ACH @50PA
Both pass the code requirements up to 2009.
2009 code requires less than 7 Ach.
2021 Code requires less than 3 ACH.
Duct Leakage testing
N/A -Not requested (FYI -a/c unit is in thermal boundary)
Mechanical ventilation should be used. This is especially important at times of high occupancy
and high interior humidity level (showers, cooking, etc)
Explanation of ACH:
CFM50:This is the airflow (in Cubic Feet per Minute)needed to create a change
in building pressure of 50 Pascals.CFM50 is the most commonly used measure
of building airtightness.
ACH at 50 Pa:The Air Changes per Hour (ACH at 50 Pa)is another commonly
used measure of building airtightness.ACH at 50 Pa is the number of complete
air changes that will occur in one hour with a 50 Pascal pressure being applied
uniformly across the building envelope.ACH at 50 Pa is a useful method of
adjusting (or normalizing)the leakage rate by the size (volume)of the building.
ACH at 50 Pa =(CFM50 x 60)/building volume in cubic feet.
Notes;House is is just under 2000 square feet coming in at 1819 square feet. The Garage is not heated and was there for left closed off during the pressure test.
The crawler was heated and as such i had cracked the crawl space hatch before starting the test. All doors and windows were shut and latched and the furnace
was verified to be turned off(disconnected). The manometer was set for a 10 second time average as to provide us with the most accurate numer possible the
maximum allowed CFM would be 1160 CFM as opposed to the 1682 CFM that was recorded. The permit was pulled at the end of 2023 so it therefore should be
allowed to be tested up the 2009 IECC code requirements.PASS.
