Luis:
At the request of the Garfield County Building Department Inspectors, you asked me to document and approve the deck
corner framing at Grid E/18. At this corner, the Permit Set shows that the joist at the deck edge on Grid E was meant to
cantilever over the deck beam to the corner, but instead was framed discontinuous due to the top of column detail used to
support the deck beam on Grid E/17.
This means that the second deck joist to the deck edge is the joist closest to the deck corner that cantilevers over the
beam and connected to the 2x10 fascia that cantilevers past the second joist to support the deck corner. I recommend
adding an LUS28 hanger to the end of the second deck joist to the 2x10 fascia.
Since the handrail post at the deck corner on Grid E/18 is additionally braced by the handrail extending from the corner to
the exterior wall on Grid 15, no additional handrail framing is required.
If there aren’t any questions, please send a pic of the LUS28 hanger after it is installed and before you have the County
inspect.
Thanks
James J. Romeo PE
