RE: Thunder River Market Kitchen Hood – 6800 Hwy 82, Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81601
Zach,
As requested, we visited the above site on April 17, 2025 to observe the existing roof conditions in regard to hanging a new
stove Hood over the kitchen area of the Thunder River Market. Generally, the roof structure was noted to be pre-engineered
trusses spanning north south and supported on an interior girder line that appears to be a 5 1/8” x 21” glulam beam.
We understand the new stove Hood will be 1,238 lbs and is approximately twelve feet long and will be placed just south of the
girder adjacent to the east wall of the kitchen. In addition, a mechanical air-handling unit (MAU) was also recently placed over
the beam in the vicinity of the Hood which we understand weighs 967lbs. The weights of both units were accounted for in our
analysis.
Based on structural analysis under current codes, the existing assumed glulam girder was analyzed for the additional loading
of both the MAU unit and the Hood and found to be adequate.
To support the new stove Hood the contractor shall provide the following:
· A double (2), 11 7/8” LVL ceiling beam shall be put in place such that one end bears on the existing glulam beam and
the other end bears on the south/west exterior bearing wall.
· This (2) LVL beam shall occur in two locations, spanning north-south, centered above the attachment points along
the front and back of the hood.
· There shall be a total of (4) attachment point of the hood to each LVL beam, (8) total attachments. Hood attachments
are by others and have not been evaluated.
· Full height blocking shall be installed at the ends of the LVL beams to the nearest truss on each side of each end of
the beams.
· Midspan ladder framing of (2) 2x8 minimum in HU28-2 hangers with screw fasteners per manufacturer’s specs shall
be installed between beams and diagonally braced up to an adjacent truss top chord.
· No attachments/connections shall be made to the bottom chords of the existing trusses.
