O. Box 1369 Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81602 ro eer. giard@ qiardhomes. com Subject: Project No.24-7-L69.4 Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lotl9,Coryell Ranch,29 Spirit Mountain Road, Garfield County, Colorado Dear Roger: As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the excavation at the subject site on April I I and 14,2025 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated March 20,2024, Project No.24'7'L69. The proposed residence is similar to that described in our previous report and will be a l-story structure with an attached gange. The ground floor will be structural over crawlspace except in the slab-on-grad e garcge. The foundation is designed for and allowable bearing pressure of 4,000 psf. At the time of our visit to the site, the foundation excavation had been cut in 2 levels from 2 to 6 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom ofthe excavation consisted of relatively dense, silty sandy gravel and cobbles. Clay soils were exposed near the middle of the excavation. The clay soils had a maximum depth of I foot and were removed and replaced with onsite coarse-gtained soils. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightlY moist. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable bearing pressure of 4,000 psf. Loose and disturbed soils should be removed in the footing areas to expose the undisturbed natural soils. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed. The recornmendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed within the foundation excavation and the previous subsurface exploration at the site. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could, increase the risk of fotrndation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions
