The turn -of-nut method was used according to the plan instructions. It was noted that the faying surfaces of the structural steel components were not flat an d appeared heavily warped due to the welding operations performed on them. At the close of today's inspection, this work continues in progress. 9-5-2024 Provide continued special inspection of bolt tensioning operations along gridlines 3 and 4 moving west to east. The turn -of-nut method was used according to the plan instructions. Noted problems were corrected as work progressed. At the close of today's inspection, this work continues in progress. 9-6-2024 Provide continued special inspection of turn of nut bolt tensioning operations along gridlines 3 and 4 moving west to east. A t the close of today's inspection, this work continues in progress. 9-10-2024 Provide continued special inspection of bolt tensioning operations along gridlines 2, 3, and 4 moving west to east. The turn -of-nut method was used according to the plan instructions. It was again noted that the faying surfaces of the structural steel comp onents were not flat and appeared heavily warped due to the welding operations performed on them. At the close of today's inspection , this work continues in progress. 9-11-2024 Provide continued special inspection of bolt tensioning operations along gridlines 1, 2, and 4 moving west to east. The turn -of- nut method was used according to the plan instructions. At the close of today's inspection, this work of bolt tensioning continues in progress 9-12-2024 Complete special inspection for bolt tensioning operations for the east half of gridline K. Today's work completes the buildi ng for high-strength bolt tensioning except for the brace frames along gridline 2 which are waiting for longer bolts to be shipped and the anchor bolts need to be snug tight along gridlines 1 and 2. Additionally, the shim plates installed along gridline one st ill need to be welded completely. NOTE: All shop welding / fabrication of structural steel by pre-approved AISC fabricators. Erection and High-strength bolt tensioning performed using turn-of-nut method with direct witness as required by the 2021 IBC, structural engineer, owner and local building jurisdiction (City of Glenwood Springs) per approved plans and specifications. All work was prepared and executed in compliance per AISC 360 Section N. The brace frames were properly tensioned per code without issue. The eave su pporting beams were found to have gaps between the steel elements at the point where they contact the supporting columns due to some mis -fabrication of columns. These will require the fabrication of steel shim plates to achieve proper bearing and another inspection to tension the bolts. 10-4-2024 Provide special inspection for high-strength bolt tensioning along gridline one for the hardware attaching the eave supporting beams to the rest of the structure. Observed fabricated steel shims to be installed to close the gap between the elements as note d in the previous inspection. Observe efforts by staff to fully tension the A-325 bolts per code. No other problems were noted. Today's effort fully completes the required high-strength bolt tensioning required and by plan and the work observed fully compl ies with approved plans and applicable building codes. It is noted here that a limited amount of minor field welding remains to complete repairs to h eavy steel shim plates along gridline one. This must be completed and inspected prior to the building being signed off as fully complete. NOTE: All shop welding / fabrication of structural steel by pre -approved AISC fabricators. Erection and High-strength bolt tensioning performed using turn-of-nut method with direct witness as required by the 2021 IBC, structural engineer, owner and local building jurisdiction (City of Glenwood Springs) per approved plans and specifications. The locations inspected as work to tension bolts was being performed include gridline one rafter beam to column connection (four 3/4" diameter bolts), gridline two rafter beam to rafter beam connection (four bolts 5/8" diameter bolts as applicable), and gridline three column to rafter beam connection (two or four 7/8" diameter bolts as applicable). Over the course of three inspection visits, I observed the installation of new bolts to replace those previously fully tensioned and the work required to achieve a fully "snug tight" condition at the above noted connections. Following this, the hardware was correctly match marked and then further rotated to achieve the required "fully tensioned" condition. At the close of the final day of this multiple work day inspection, the bolts witnessed fully appear to be tensioned in accord with approved plans and the Structural Engineer's additional instructions. 2-28-2025 Continued work in progress - Provide special inspection for high-strength bolting operations to perform "turn of nut tensioning" of new and new replacement A-325 high-strength bolts in structural connections modified per Structural Engineer to provide increased strength.
