At the time of GQ's site visit the excavations were completed, rebar was in place and forms were placed using the excavation method with no wood forms. The entire excavation was well covered with concrete blankets to protect the work area from rain, snow and saturation. A visual and tactile inspection of the soil was performed, and a half inch diameter probe rod was used to attempt to detect soft, weak areas in the bottom of the excavations. The foundation bearing soil in the excavation is suitable for a maximum allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 psf. Care should be used to direct water away from the excavations and prevent softening of the bearing soils. GQ should be contacted for review if soil conditions change before concrete is placed.
