Dear Mr. Almazan,
As requested, structural steel special inspection was conducted per the
IBC 2021 Edition - Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspection and the
Town of Carbondale requirements. I arrived at the fabricator's facility at 9:00
AM. I met with Mr. Jorge Gomez with Alpine Steel to review project requirements
and material ready for inspection.
Continuous visual welding inspection was conducted on the Complete
Joint Penetration (CJP) groove welds for one bent beam (part # B31) for the
above project. Mr. Jorge Gomez was the certified welder of record. All fit -up and
preheat were checked prior to any welding. The following parameters were
observed to be compliant with the requirements of the governing WPS:
• Base metal composition
• Filler metal composition
• Joint configuration and base metal preparation
• Shielding gas and flow rate
• Joint fit -up
• Root opening
• Preheat temperature
• Interpass temperature
• Welding current characteristics
• Amperage employed

Upon completion, I observed all CJP groove welds to be in compliance with
project specifications and the inspection requirements as stated in Clause 8
of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code — Steei:2020 Edition.
