REQUEST:
We understand the fire division & building department are open to exempting the requirement for hand
hose stations in the hangar. Per Contractor consultation with a Senior Engineering Technician (SET), our
request is as follows:
"For the Vantage Aviation Hangar (A2 Building) project, it is proposed to
exempt/eliminate the installation of the 1 %" hand hose stations required by the
2016 edition of NFPA 409.
These fire hose stations are typically underutilized due to the risks to non -fire
department staff in the event of a fire, and due to the fire department's standard
operational procedure to use their dedicated equipment -
This requirement was removed in the 2022 edition of NFPA 409 citing these and
other concems.
A copy of the NFPA 409 technical committee's notes is attached for reference
(see pages 30 & 31)."
