Subject: Garage/Shop Building - Open Hole InspecƟon and CompacƟon TesƟng of Subgrade
and Engineered Fill
Mr. Olivas,
Geo Quest (GQ) visited the foundaƟon excavaƟon for a new garage/shop building at 146
Quicksilver Court, on Grass Mesa, south of Rifle on March 4 th and 5th to observe subgrade
condiƟons and compacted fill. GQ made short site visits and did not perform full Ɵme
observaƟon. A total of 24 inches of road base was placed and compacted within the foundaƟon
footprint area using the appropriate moisture content and degree of compac Ɵon. Water was
added to the fill on site as needed and compacƟon was provided with a steel drum, vibratory
sheepsfoot, Dynapac roller.
The subgrade and road base met the project compacƟon specificaƟons during proof roll
observaƟons and nuclear density tesƟng. Photos of the site and compacted fill are presented in
Figures 1 and 2.
