Attn: Tyler Miles 1161 Munro Avenue Rifle, Colorado 81650 tyler@jm-co.org Project No. 26-7-182 Subject: Observation of Excavation, Proposed Event Center Shelter, Battlement Mesa Golf Course, Battlement Mesa, Colorado Gentlemen: As requested, a representative of Kumar & Associates, Inc. observed the excavation at the subject site on March 11, 2026 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. Chen & Associates previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the clubhouse site and presented the findings in a report dated April 8, 1982, Job No. 23,751. The current observation was performed in accordance with our agreement for professional services with J. Martinez and Co. dated March 10, 2026. The shelter foundation has been designed to be supported on spread footing pads placed on the natural rocky soils and sized for the previously recommended allowable bearing pressure of 4,000 psf. At the time of our visit to the site, the 16 footing pad excavations had each been cut in one level from 1½ to 2½ feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavation were variable due to placement of road base in some areas and appeared to mainly consist of silty clayey sand and gravel with cobbles. The results of a gradation analysis performed on a sample of combined natural soils (minus 5-inch fraction) obtained from the site are presented on Figure 1. No free water was encountered in the excavation, and the soils were slightly moist to moist. The rocky soils exposed in the excavation appear consistent with those previously encountered on the site and can be used for support of spread footings designed for the recommended Kumar & Associates
