RE: 318 Lions Ridge Road Septic Alteration
MEMORANDUM
Inspection & Alteration Description
A field inspection was performed to ensure that the system was operating effectively. Based on
conversations with the owners, evaluation of the system and previous application designs, and a review of
an inspection performed recently the system is operating as expected with no signs of failing or inoperable
portions of the system. The only recommendation was to pump out the tank, which was performed by the
owners recently.
The ‘Application – Permit Old’ document shows the system was designed and installed for 7 bedrooms. As
can be seen in the property record card, there are only 5 bedrooms for the existing residence . A review of
the existing residence shows that only 4 conforming bedrooms exist in the residence. The approved onsite
wastewater treatment system (OWTS) has capacity for additional bedrooms. The proposed project is to
construct a mother-in-law with one bedroom in staying compliant with the previously approved application
and design. The installed system has the soil treatment area (STA) large enough for 7 bedrooms based on
site and soil conditions.
An additional inspection was performed to understand the vegetation growth at the lower end of the STA.
During the inspection, the distribution box was checked for any noticeable issues. The distribution box
appeared to be operating normally and after walking through the STA there was no noticeable odors or
moisture indicating that the STA had broken or failing components. Suggestion to add a flow equalizer if
any abnormal conditions for the STA occur in the future.
Alteration to the system includes including an additional 1,000-gallon two compartment septic tank and
tying into the existing OWTS system. The STA will stay unmodified as it was designed and installed for 7
bedrooms.
