Dear Mr. Shank:
Transmitted herewith is my design for the sewage disposal
system at Hanging Lake Pilot Bore. The following items
are noted:
1. I have used the percolation rates you have provided.
2. Exhibits Al -A4 are excerpts from Regulation No. I -73,
Tri- County District Health Department, which were used
in obtaining permits for sewage disposal systems at
Foothills Tunnel. These are good standard regulations
which should apply in Garfield County as well.
3. I recommend that you use the seepage bed shown on page
5 of the Garfield County application, and have made my
calculations accordingly.
4. Please note the miscellaneous requirements I have listed
on page 5 of the Garfield County application.

Re: Hanging Lake Pilot Bore Job Site
Percolation Test Results
Dear Mr. Shank:
Per your request, the results of the percolation tests taken
on November 6, 1983 are as follows:
Test Hole #1 - 15 minutes /inch )
Test Hole #2 - 10 minutes /inch ) average rate - 10.83 min /in.
Test Hole #3 - 7.5 minutes /inch)
Soil in absorption system area is an aluvium containing a few
rock fragments in the pits themselves. There is an abundant soil
matrix of suitable material around the rock fragments.
Examination test hole data supplied by the Colorado Division
of Highways reveals that depth to bedrock at this location is ap-
proximately 50 feet and depth to water table is approximately 35
feet.
If we may be of further assistance on your job, please call.
Sincerely,
MESA ENGINEERING & SURVEYING CO., INC.

Unless designed by a registered professional engineer and
approved by the Board of Health, no such system may be permitted
in areas under any of the following conditions: (a) where the
soil percolation rate is slower than one inch in sixty minutes
seasonalrlevel of is (b)
below the bottom of the proposed absorption system; and (c) where
the ground slope is in excess of thirty percent.
A test hole found to be dry four feet below the bottom of a
soil absorption system shall be prima facie evidence that the
groundwater table is sufficiently below the bottom of the proposed
absorption system.
A. Absorption Area. The minimum absorption area in square
feet (A) for an individual sewage disposal system shall be
determined as a function of the estimated quantity of sewage
flow in gallons per day (Q) and the percolation rate in
minutes per inch (t), accord o the formula:
A° Q
5
The minimum absorption area socalculated shall be increased
by an additional twenty (20) percent if wastes from a garbage
grinder are discharged into the system by an additional
forty (40) percent if wastes from an automatic washing machine
are discharged into the system. The ground surface shall be
graded to deflect precipitation or other outside water from
the disposal area.
Increase the minimum absorption area fifty (50) percent for
this applicaton.
