All materials, installation practices, setback requirements, etc., shall comply with the Garfield County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. 2. The absorption field shall be constructed so that the bottom of all trenches are level and at the same elevation. 3. Excavation of the absorption field may proceed only when the moist- ure content is below the soil's plastic limit. If a sample of soil taken from the trench forms a "wire" instead of crumbling when at- tempting to roll it between the hands, the soil is too wet. 4. The bottom and sidewalls of the excavation shall be left with a rough and open surface. Any smeared and compacted surfaces shall be removed. 5. The following preventative maintenance schedule is recommended to prolong the life of the system: a. pump septic tanks once each year. b. Check plumbing fixtures on a regular basis and repair all leaks which can add substantial amounts of water to the system. c. Install 3 gallon /flush toilets and low water use fixture to re- duce wastewater flow into the system. 6. The Garfield County Building Department shall be notified when con- struction commences and kept abreast of the construction progress so that sufficient inspection can be performed to assure conform- ance with these plans. Design Criteria 1. Twenty -eight children will live in facility on a full time basis. An additional four persons employed at all times in facility. Total population (design) at facility is 32. 2. Use 100 gpd /person for design flow. 3. Septic tank capacity required = 1.5 x average day flow = 1.5 (32) (100) = 4800 gallons Two (2) 1000 gallon tanks exist: 4800 - 2(1000) = 2800 gallons Install an additional 3000 gallon tank. 4. Soil Profile Hole - 0' of red silty loam. 5. Percolation rate by Garfield County - 8 min. /in. 6. Design Application Rate = 0.8 gpd /sq.ft. from EPA design manual "on Site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems ". 7. Absorption area required = 4800 gpd = 6000 sq.ft. 0.8 8. Length of 3' wide standard trench = 6000 = 2000 ft. 3 9. Amount of 3' wide trench w/ 5' of rock below pipe = 0.36 (2000) = 720 ft. (0.36 is derived from): 3 + 1 + +(2)(5) 14 0.36 10. 200' of trench now exists. Therefore, an additional 520 feet needs to be added.
