Box 445 Carbondale, CO 81623 RE: Carmichael ISE6 Dear Gary: Per your request, we have prepared (via letter) a plan for construction of your individual sewage disposal system. Based upon the parameters found on previous site visits and based up a perc test performed for the site, the following design is proposed. Before addressing the • specifics of the design, I would like to re - summarize the information obtained to ascertain the type of system to be installed: 1) The pert test results for three holes are listed as follows: - Perc hole #1, 2 mpi - Perc hole #2, 10 mpi - Perc hole #3, 13 mpi Average pert rate = 8.33 mpi 2) Depth to seasonal high groundwater, + six feet. Based upon the site data obtained, we have found that a standard seep- age bed can be constructed; however, one item concerns me after review- ing data collected in the field, that is, we did have a perc rate which was less than 5 mpi. My initial thoughts with this particular perro- alation hole was that it was located in an area where there was an absence of fine material. 'Therefore, I would propose to do the follow- ing: Approach the bed construction from a standard, at -grade system with the suggestion that we be notified when the excavation for the bed is complete. Upon excavation of the bed, we would be able to perform a site specific investigation to ascertain that some type of filtering mechanism (i.e., one foot of sand or one foot of pit run material with 5% to 10% of this material passing the 200 sieve) would not be needed. If we feel that the soil is representative of the two slower pert rates, we would not need to install a filtering mechanism. I would like to list the construction requirements of the bed as follows: 1) The elevation of the bottom of the bed shall be located at a minimum of four feet above the ordinary high groundwater (excava- ted depth of two feet). 2) The area of the bed shall be no smaller than 650.3 square feet. November 7, 1988 Mr. Gary Carmichael Page two 2) continued... The area of the bed was based upon the perc rate (average) of 8.33 mpi. With this perc rate, the allowable loading rate for the soil is 1.3 gal /sq.ft. /day. 3) The bottom of the absorption field shall be level. 4) The distribution piping within the field shall be 2" Class 160 solid wall pipe for the header, and shall be 1" perforated pipe for the laterals. I have enclosed a typical lateral installation detail. 5) A 12" layer of 1/2" to 2 -1/2" washed gravel should be distributed evenly over the entire bed with the distribution lines inset at a depth to ensure that at least 6" gravel are below and 2" of gravel are above each line. The top of the gravel shall be covered with a 10" layer of uncompacted straw, or a Mirafi® 140N filter cloth, to prevent the migration of native soil backfill into the gravel layer. The final cover of soil over the Mirafi® fabric shall be sloped to drain off the bed. 6) The seepage bed shall be shall be constructed such that the length of the bed will be no more than 100 feet long. The outer- most disposal lines in the bed shall be placed no less than 18" and no more than 36" from the outside bed walls. For each six feet, or part thereof, in bed width, there shall be one distri- bution line extending the length of the bed. Such lines shall be spaced evenly between three feet and six feet apart so as to dis- tribute the effluent evenly over the entire bed area. The dis- tribution lines (laterals) shall be constructed such that there is a slight slope away from the header. 7) Because you have a three - bedroom house, a 1000 gallon septic tank will be required; and because we are required to pump on this site, a minimum pumping chamber size of 575 gallons is required. I have enclosed a detail which we typically use to construct the septic tank and dosing tank. I hope this letter serves its intended purpose. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any problems or questions. Sincerely, SCBMUE YER, INC. 40 / e r rey S. Simonson JSS:Lec /8191 Enclosures ,,J y ' _. b ° is ' `;y.
