Box 1412 Glenwood Springs, CO 81602 Subject: Percolation Test Results Go Cart Track Cattle Creek Road & Highway 82 Garfield County, Colorado Job No. GS -1531 Gentlemen: This letter presents results from percolation tests for the Go Cart Track located at Cattle Creek Road and Highway 82 in Garfield County, Colorado. Percolation tests were previously performed on this site during our soils and foundation investigation, Job No, GS -1245, dated April 12, 1994. Due to a change of location and elevation of the actual percolation field three (3) additional tests were performed. The percolation test results are not substantially different from those obtained previously, therefore we recommend using our original percolation rate of 20 minutes /inch for percolation field design. Results are shown on Figure 1. If we can be of further service, please call. Very truly yours, CTL /THHOMPSON, INC. These walls are restrained and cannot move, therefore, they should be designed for the "at -rest" lateral earth pressure. Assuming the on -site sands are used as backfill, we recommend using an equivalent fluid density of 45 pct to calculate lateral earth pressure. The above equivalent fluid density does not include allowances for sloping backfill, hydrostatic pressures, live loads or loads from adjacent structures. Water from surface run-off (precipitation, snow melt, irrigation) frequently flows through hackfif placed adjacent to foundation walls and collects on the surface of the comparatively impermeable soils occurring at the bottom of the foundation excavation. This can cause damp or wet conditions in the crawlspace or basement. To reduce the accumulation of water, we recommend a foundation drain. The drain should consist of a 4 -inch diameter open joint or slotted PVC pipe encased in free draining gravel. The `r. drain should lead to a positive gravity outlet or a sump to be mechanically pggi '&J. A typical foundation drain detail is shown on Figuro 5. Backfill plac a scent to foundation walls should be compacted to at least 95 percent of st dard Proctor maximum dry density (ASTM D 698). PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS Six (6) percolation tests were performed in the silty sands at locations shown as 1 through 1 Wo recommend using a percolation rate of 20 minutes /inch for percolation field design. Results are shown on Figures 6 through 11. 6 MAY -26 -95 13:52 FROM: C T L THOMPSON GLENWOOD ID: 3039457411 PAGE 7 • ' Go) CART ' I RACK CA'I"1'LN, CR II :E1( RO4I) & IIWY fit c \ 1U 1 I) 1'0111\1'1'Y, GO1IORAI)O To N Glenwood S1,ringf; N 1 C i f (' / t ■ of aJ r t Scale: 1" — 50' il tt - ---■,?._,, SI'I'I; _ C. ' ' f Q VICINI'T'Y MAI' I'lni tt.•cI Slick Track . p i• e Building N4. r r/ 4 r I•;xislirt{: Building , i, ,, ri. w 111 1 r -- Or ----- 7: ` .
