Box 3159 Aspen, Colorado 81612 Job No. 198 207 Subject: Percolation Testing, Proposed Residence, Lot 4, Wooden Deer, Garfield County, Colorado Dear Mr. Vidal: As requested, we conducted percolation testing at the subject site to evaluate the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal system. The work was done as requested by Bill Dorais on March 23, 1998. A profile pit and three shallow percolation pits that had been dug with a backhoe were observed on March 23, 1998. Due to snow melt runoff, the percolation tests could not be started until April 1. Percolation test holes were hand dug (about 1 foot deep by 1 foot in diameter) at the bottom of the shallow percolation pits. The test holes were soaked and protected from freezing with insulation overnight. The subsoils observed in the profile pit and percolation pits consist of about 1 foot of topsoil overlying basalt rock in a silt and clay matrix. Groundwater was not encountered to the profile pit depth of 8 feet: Percolation tests were performed on April 2, 1998 by a representative of Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. At the time of the tests, no frost was observed in the test holes. The percolation test results are summarized on Table I. The percolation test results indicate an infiltration rate between 10 and 60 minutes per inch with an average of about 25 minutes per inch. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and percolation test results, the tested site appears suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. The test locations should be shown on the site plan of the lot development. If you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance, please call our office.
