Attn: Mogli Fairbanks 930 Grand Avenue Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81601 Job No. 196 380 Subject: Results of Percolation Testing for Feasibility of Infiltration Septic System, Parcel 1, Weaver Subdivision, No Name, Colorado. Dear Ms. Fairbanks: As requested, we determined the subsurface profile and performed percolation testing at the subject site to evaluate the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal system. The work was conducted as verbally requested by you on September 9. 1996. A single family residence is planned on the parcel. A profile pit was excavated with a backhoe near the designated building area as shown on Fig. 1. Access was limited to the tested area due to the thick vegetation. The subsurface profile generally consisted of about I foot of topsoil overlying gravel, cobbles and boulders in a silty sand matrix to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. No free water was encountered. A gradation analysis was performed on a sample of the material finer than about 3 inches, see Fig. 2. At least half of the subsoils are larger than 3 inches. Percolation testing was performed in a shallow hole excavated adjacent the profile pit. The results of percolation testing, presented in Table I, indicate a percolation rate of 8 minutes per inch. Based on the subsoil profile encountered, the percolation test results and our experience in the area an infiltration system for septic disposal should be feasible at the tested site. A sand filter may be needed due to the relatively rapid percolation rate. Site specific testing in accordance with Garfield County regulations should be made to design and size the septic disposal system for the selected disposal area.
