RE: Individual Sewage Disposal System Design for Lot 15, Peach Valley Orchard, Silt
SE Job No. 99076.01
Dear Dan and Sara:
Attached herewith is a report of our findings and includes a design for the subject site improvements.
We have used the information we received from yourselves and the Garfield County Building and
Sanitation Department.
It is our understanding you intend to build a structure with three bedrooms. The total number of bedrooms
for the design of the proposed system will be three unless noted otherwise.
Based upon the attached ISD permit and information you have given us the subsoil encountered at the site
consists of topsoil overlaying a uniform sandy, silty material with some cobble. The groundwater table
was encountered at approximately five feet from the surface. The average absorption rate of the soils on
site were measured to be 60 minutes per inch.
A site plan is provided to detail the various components of the proposed sewage disposal system. The
following details the technical criteria utilized in the design of the proposed system. The new field must
be constructed as a mound system since the water table is so close to the surface of the ground.
Design Criteria;
Proposed 3 bedroom house
2 persons per bedroom
75 gallons per person
Q Ave. = 2 * 3 * 75 = 450 gallons
Q Design = Q Ave. * 1.5 = 675 gallons
Septic Tank;
30 hour retention
Volume = Q Design * 1.25 = 675 * 1.25 = 844
Use 1000 gallon septic tank
Absorption Field Design•
Area (S.F.) = Q Design/5 *square root t 60min/inch perc. rate
A 675,5 *sqaure root 60 = 1045 S.F.
Use 18X58' or 24'X43' Absorption Field

In retrospect of the current conditions, all septic tank and sewage lines must be watertight for reasons that
much of the proposed septic system will be placed at or below the water table. The tank must be
watertight therefore, it is recommended to install a one piece septic tank unit to prevent ground water
infiltration into the septic system.
General Notes;
1) All materials and installation practices shall conform to the Garfield County Individual Sewage
Disposal Regulation.
2) All sewer lines in the system shall be Schedule 40 or SDR -35 PVC unless specified otherwise on the
plans.
3) The contractor shall ensure that the concrete septic tank and sewer lines are completely watertight.
4) The bed area must be protected to prevent damage from vehicular or livestock traffic and must be
crowned to divert drainage runoff away from the bed.
5) The contractor shall not excavate to a depth greater than one foot (1') at any one location within the
site of the proposed bed.
6) The mound shall be planted (sod or mulch seeding) with suitable vegetative cover.
7) Add a two -way cleanout on service line from the house.
8) Livestock should not be confined in the field area
9) Septic tank will require anchoring where groundwater is present.

Our design and recommendations are based upon data supplied to us by others. If subsurface or site
conditions are found to be different form those decided in this report, we should be notified to evaluate the
effect it may have on the proposed ISDS. If the County Environmental Health Department requests
changes or modifications to this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the effect on the ISDS.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please call.
Sincerely,
