Dear Mr. Thorne: As requested, we have conducted percolation testing at the subject site to evaluate the feasibility of an infiltration septic disposal system at the site. The results of our work are presented in this report. Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. previously performed a subsoil study at the site and presented our findings in a report dated October 27. 1998, Job No. 198 697. A profile pit and three shallow backhoc pits had been excavated in the southeast corner of the building envelope as shown on Fig. 1. Percolation test holes had been hand dug in the bottom of the shallow backhoe pits prior to our arrival on -site. The test holes were soaked on July 1, 1999. The profile pit had been excavated at thc time of the previous study. The soils exposed in the percolation holes and profile pit consist of sandy clay and silt with scattered fragments of siltstone and sandstone to the profile pit depth of 9 1/2 feet. No free water was encountered in the pits and thc subsoils were slightly moist. Percolation tests were performed on July 2, 1999 by a representative of Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. The percolation test results are presented on 'fable 1. The percolation test results indicate an infiltration rate between 24 and 40 minutes per inch with an average rate at 31 minutes per inch. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the percolation test results, the tested area should be suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. - - -- HP GEOTECH Ht:pworthPawlak Geotech TEL :970 -945 -8454 Jul 08 99 11:28 No.005 P.02 Ken Thorne July 7, 1999 Page 2 If you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance, please call our office. At the time of inspection, the contractor had installed the sewer main, one cleanout at the house, one 2000- gallon septic tank, and a chamber absorption field. The septic tank was exposed, but the absorption field and much of the sewer main had been backfilled. No inspection wells were evident. According to County Staff, the absorption field and tank were inspected by your office prior to backfilling. It was also observed that the sewer main did not contain cleanouts at all bends. Therefore, the contractor was advised to install an additional cleanout at the 45° bend before the tank. The cleanout should be installed so as to provide access towards the house. The contractor has agreed to install the missing component prior to completion of backfill. Otherwise, the installation of the system was in conformance with the intent of the design.
