CONDITIONS FOR PLAN REVIEW #44 -94
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
0-1 MI references are taken from the 1988 Uniform Building Code (U.B.C.),
1988 Uniform Plumbing Code (U.P.C.), and the 1988 Uniform Mechanical Code (U.M.C.)
Subiect to the following conditions;
All footing designed shall be design to minimize differential settlement in accordance with
(Section 2907 (e)., of the U.B.C.) and (U.B.C. Standard 29-4). Bottom of footing in all cases
shall bear on undisturbed soil. A soils investigation may be required by the Building Official,
based on (Section 2905, U.B.C.) The bottom footing may need to extend deeper, once
excavation is performed.
0-1.2 Drainage away from the building is needed around the building, (Section 2907 (d)., 5.1.,
of the U.B.C.)
Follow the manufactures documents and foundation design and bolt lay - out. Call for
inspection prior to placement of any concrete.
The grout shall be 5 to 6 sack mix, sand and portland cement with 7 to 8 inch slump, per
(Section 2618 (q)., U.B.C.). Type II cement only, without calcium.
0-1.1 Every attempt is made by the Building Department to perform a thorough plan
review, however please be aware of (Section 303 (c) of the U.B.C., which states):
This issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans and specifications
shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation
of any of the provisions of this code or of any other ordinance of the
jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the
provisions of this code shall be valid.
The issuance of the permit based upon plans, specifications and other data
shall not prevent the Building Official from thereafter requiring the correct-
ion of errors in said plans, specifications and other data, or from preventing
building operations being carried on thereunder when in violation of this code
or of any other ordinances of this jurisdiction.
All construction shall be approved prior to the issuance of
Certificate of Occupancy

Grouting the Building
When assembly of your building has been completed, your building must be anchored to the foun-
dation by filling the foundation troughs with cement grout. The shape of the arches may result
in wind suction during strong gusts of wind, which might lift some of the arches out of the troughs.
It is therefore important to grout the building as soon as the assembly is completed. Grouting also
contributes to the stiffness of the arches, resulting in a stronger building.
CAUTION: GROUT MUST NOT CONTAIN ANY CORROSIVE SUBSTANCES, SUCH AS
CALCIUM CHLORIDE; THIS COULD RESULT IN CORROSION OF THE STEEL. ASK YOUR
CONCRETE SUPPLIER! GROUT 15 USUALLY A 50/50 MIXTURE OF PORTLAND CEMENT
& SAND.
NOTE: Grouting is done on a 1" slope, so water will run away from the buldling.
NOTE: The steel panels are protected by a coat of special passive oil. This oil may
affect the bond between the steel and the concrete, so we suggest that the panels
be cleaned by wiping with varsol or other suitable solvents. Since steel is sensitive
to the chemical reaction of concrete during the curing period, we recommend you spray
the ends of the panels with a thin coat of lacquer or varnish before grouting.
NOTE: Arches and endwalls must be grouted on the inside and outside to properly
anchor your building to the foundation. After grout is dried, we recommend that you
caulk seam where the grout meets the steel.

Once the arch panels have been assembled into complete units you are ready to raise them into
position.
NOTE: Tighten all arches finger tight only until building is complete. When all arches
are stood and plumbed, tighten bolts completely, starting with straight panels and eave
panels on both sides. On large models 40' wide and up It is advisable to tighten the
straight and eave panels as you stand each arch, but always check for proper arch
shape and length before you tighten.
