MOVED BUILDINGS
In order to understand the scope of the work intended under a permit
application and expedite the issuance of a permit it is important that
complete information be provided. Adequate and complete information will
prevent delays in the plan review process. Reviewing a plan and the
discovery that required information has not been provided by the applicant
may result in the delay of the permit issuance and in proceeding with
building construction. The owner or contractor may be required to provide
this information before the plan review may proceed. This causes delays
because other plans that are in line for review may be given attention before
the new information may be reviewed after it has been provided to the
Building Department.
Please review this document to determine if you have enough
information to design your project and provide adequate information to
facilitate a plan review. If you do not, it may be helpful to obtain a book
titled "Dwelling construction under the Uniform Building Code. This
book is available to you through this department at our cost. Also,
please consider using a design professional for assistance in your
design and a construction professional for construction of your project.
To provide for a more understandable plan in order to determine
compliance with the building, plumbing and mechanical codes, applicants
are requested to review the following check list prior to and during design.

Applicants are required to indicate appropriately and to submit completed
check list at time of application for a permit:
1. Is a site plan included that indicates the distance of the proposed
building or addition to property lines, other buildings, set back
easements and utility easements?

Dear Tom,
At your request, on Sept. 12, 1995, I inspected the roof framing for the noted modular structure.
In plan, the modular measures 8' -0" by 28' -0 ". I have also reviewed the attached design
information from the modular manufacturer. The design information includes a floor plan, a
building cross section and a shop drawing for the roof trusses.
Note that roof framing consists of premanufactured roof trusses spaced at 16 inches on center
spanning 8' -0 ". The shop drawings for the roof trusses was provided by the truss manufacturer,
Alpine Engineered Products, Inc. The shop drawing lists truss capacities for truss spaced at 16
inches on center and 24 inches on center. Angie Corbitt of GE Capital Modular verified that the
subject unit has trusses spaced at 16 inches on center. My field observations of ceiling attachment
verified this spacing.
The truss shop drawing provide truss capacities based on 16 inch truss spacing as follows:
Top chord live load 30.0 PSF
Top chord dead load 6.0 PSF
Bottom chord dead load 7.0 PSF
Total Load Capacity 43,0 PSF
The design dead loads assumed by the truss manufacturer are significantly greater than the actual
dead loads of the modular unit built by GE Capital Modular.

Based on the enclosed building cross section and verified by my field observations the actual roof
dead loads are as follows:
ACTUAL DEAD LOADS PSF
1. 30 gauge steel roll roofing 0,6
2. 3/8 inch thick plywood 1.1
3. Pre - engineered trusses at 16" O.C. 1.6
4. R -19 Fiberglass insulation 0.5
5. Air handling ducts and light 0.2
6. 3/8" Gypsum board ceiling 1.0
TOTAL DEAD LOAD 5.0 PSF
If the full design snow load of 40 PSF is seen by the roof, the trusses would be overstressed by
less than 5% (i.e.: 45/43). This 5% overstress assumes that the trusses act alone and there are no
secondary support systems. This is not the case. The interior partition walls and end walls and
floor system provide a secondary support system which will provide the additional required roof
capacity.
It is my professional opinion that the modular roof can safely support the full 40 PSF design snow
load. I believe that the modular, as constructed, can function as intended for many years in its
present location.
